A couple of weeks ago, I discovered I enjoyed interviewing people and posting answers about their lives on my blog. I started with some of the primary actors/actresses from “God’s Not Dead.” Now I hope to share several entries from Conservatives who work diligently to wheel America back to the Right. Please take a moment to become more acquainted with Anna Maria Hoffman
I don’t know much more about you than your Twitter Bio which shares, “@CCultured Founder. Socially and Fiscally #tcot #prolife #profamily #freemarkets #2A.” Could you tell us a bit more about yourself? Where are you from?
I am originally from Orange County, California, but my parents are from Lithuania and grew up under the former Soviet Union. Their stories of their upbringing have largely molded my political philosophy and inspired me to keep up the good fight to restore our nation to its founding principles.
Where did you graduate from college?
I graduated from UC San Diego last year, earning a B.A. in Human Development. Also, I graduated Cum Laude and finished college in three years.
What are some of your interests outside of the political arena?
My interests outside of politics include dancing, singing, cooking, baking, hiking, traveling, and sightseeing.
Please tell us more about being the Founder @CCultured. What is its purpose?
I founded Counter Cultured in September 2012, because there was no youth voice on culturally conservative issues in the conservative blogosphere. I also saw the need for social conservatism to be rebranded, because people mistakenly think it embodies big government policies when, in reality, it embraces small government principles. In addition, I noticed that the pro-family movement’s greatest weakness is youth outreach, so I wanted to create an online outlet where we could cultivate online youth grassroots activism on key cultural issues.
For those who may be interested, what is that website address?
What do you hope your website accomplishes?
Through Counter Cultured, we seek to make the connection between limited government and cultural conservatism. We also believe that we can largely renew our culture through engagement on the local level. It’s a reason why we do video projects for our site. By participating in these video projects, young people can make their voices heard on important cultural issues, such as the right to life, marriage, and religious liberty. Our “Young Men Speaking Out for Life” video project, our first video project, has been our most successful one thus far. Now, we are looking for participants to participate in our new video project on religious liberty. More details can be found under the “Video Projects” tab on our website.
What is your role on counterculturedusa.com?
As the founder of Counter Cultured, I run the site, write blog posts, and create videos and video projects.
What are some of the most compelling reasons for you to embrace Conservatism?
I embrace conservatism because it’s common sense. It’s a philosophy that embodies freedom, a stable civil society, and fiscal responsibility. I like how its core tenets put more faith in local entities, such as families, communities, and civic organizations, rather than the government. I think more people my age would embrace it if they knew the truth about it. It’s up to us to tell them that truth, as this administration’s policies continue to collapse right in front of them.
Recently, you appeared on a panel on a Blaze TV program hosted by Dana Loesch. Tell us about that experience.
My experience on The Dana Show was wonderful. I am very happy I got to discuss women’s issues with a great group of young conservative women. I am incredibly thankful to Dana Loesch for informing her audience about my website.
And you also had the opportunity of meeting Glenn Beck?
Yes. It’s still hard for me to believe that I met Glenn Beck in pajamas while we were filming the hate mail slumber party segment of the show. It’s an experience I will never forget.
Do you see signs that there could be a Conservative resurgence in America, and if so, what do you consider to be some of those sign posts?
It’s hard to tell at this point, but we have to remember that we have so many tools these days to make that resurgence happen. We often forget about how grassroots activism has the power to change hearts and minds and pressure politicians to do the right thing on Capitol Hill. Through better messaging and online and local grassroots activism, I think we can bring more people over to conservatism and mobilize people to hold our local, state, and federal governments accountable.
What drives you to fight for a freer America?
My passion for conservatism and my family background drive me to fight for a freer America. My parents grew up under an oppressive society with limited freedom. America is truly the last beacon of hope and freedom in our world. We cannot let ideologues who are motivated by power and self-interest ruin the dreams and futures of my generation and the rest of Americans.
I want to offer a special thanks to Anna Maria Hoffman for allowing us a closer look into her life. Obviously this Country needs more young Conservatives like her. You can follow Anna Maria on Twitter @AM_Hoffman and be sure to check out her website counterculturedusa.com.
