My wife and I are expecting our sixth child.  Yes, our sixth!  In fact, as I type, I’m on high alert.  My wife could go into labor at any moment.  The Doctor said our family’s addition will probably come in the next two weeks.  She delivered this prediction a week ago….Even though this baby makes an even half-dozen, I still feel a few butterflies dancing in my stomach.  Because of my wife’s age (40), she’s considered a high risk pregnancy.  And though she’s a picture of health, as is baby girl, I’ll breathe a sigh of relief when she arrives and Mommy and baby are cuddling in bed.

When my wife discovered she was expecting several months ago, not once did we refer to her life as a burden or a punishment.  We might’ve asked each other, “Are we crazy?”  But the question vanished as we celebrated with our kids the news.  We enjoy having a larger than normal family.  In fact, the Bible shares,

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.  Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”  (Psalm 127:3,5)

I’ve considered ordering specialty license plates for our SUV and name her ‘Quiver.’  Without graduating to a 15 passenger van, we’ll be at capacity when little girl arrives.

PlannedParenthoodEmbarrasing

Sadly, not all people consider babies a blessing.

The above sign appears roadside in Portland, Oregon.  I researched the advertisement and found that many pro-life people complained about the insensitivity of the message.  Planned Parenthood claims the slogan applies to STD’s, but with no mention of sexually transmitted diseases, isn’t the sign open to interpretation?  When you think of Planned Parenthood, do you immediately think of cancer screenings or abortions?  The sign conveys the same message that the President imparted on the campaign trail in 2008 concerning his daughters.

“I’ve got two daughters…a nine year old and a six year old.  If they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

When the Center for Medical Progress started releasing videos, exposing Planned Parenthood, President of the organization, Cecile Richards, tried to explain that Planned Parenthood is not an organ harvesting and marketing entity.  She also expressed dismay over the ‘tone’ her employees utilized when discussing the abortion of babies.  I wonder if Ms. Richards finds the tone of “punished with a baby” offensive? I’m guessing not because just over 90% of all abortions in America today are performed as a form of birth control.  As the President puts it, a couple makes a “mistake” and shies away from responsibility, labeling the “product of conception” a punishment instead of a blessing.

Though abortion is a stain on this Country’s history, it is only a symptom of a greater problem.  What about guns?  Are guns the problem?  Our politicians scramble to blame guns when another story of gun violence owns the headlines.  No guns aren’t the problem either.  The real problem is our dismissal of the sanctity of life, and that all lives matter.  If as a Country we treat the most innocent of life with disdain and with a disposable mentality, then why should we expect people to respect life as they age?  If the womb isn’t the safest place for humanity, then where might that place be?

America’s only hope is to turn to God.  May we do so before it’s too late.
