Do You Really Care About Our Kids?

God has blessed my family with six children, three boys…three girls….a modern day Brady Boggs8Bunch of sorts.  When our family piles out of the Suburban or walks into the grocery store, our presence raises eyebrows.  I wish I had a nickel for every time a person asks, “You know how that happens, right?” My favorite response is, “My wife knows, but she won’t tell me.”  Truth be told, we love kids.  It’s that plain and simple.

We (our family) associate or tend to support a political Party that champions children, starting at conception.  We proudly claim to be the Party of Life.  And that’s the case for the GOP unless the preferred Candidate fails to receive the Party’s nod for nominee and then some moan and groan, threatening to support a third Party candidate or refusing to vote in November.  But my third Party candidate is pro-life, you say.  That’s great, but in our overwhelmingly entrenched two-party system, a third party candidate only serves to steal votes away from either the Democrat or Republican nominee.  In this case, Donald Trump stands to lose the most from individuals dead set against the GOP nominee.

Am I one hundred percent convinced Trump’s a true Conservative?  Absolutely not!  He concerns me…a great deal.  However, am I convinced Hillary Clinton plans to perpetuate Obama’s legacy by sticking America with a third term of Obama’s ideologies?  Absolutely!  She’s promised as much.  And this is one of the only things she’s said that can be trusted.

Time and time again I converse with Conservatives who won’t vote for Trump because their conscience won’t allow it.  Well, if that’s you, I pose the following questions:

Will your conscience allow Hillary Clinton to nominate four or more Supreme Court Justices?

Will your conscience vote for Hillary, a woman worshiped by the nation’s largest abortion provider?

Will your conscience vote for Hillary even after she claimed Margaret Sanger as a hero?

Will your conscience vote for a woman who lied about Benghazi, blaming the attack on a YouTube video?

Will your conscience vote for a woman who compromised national security by unilaterally deciding to utilize her own private server and email?

Will your conscience vote for a woman whose husband sexually harassed and assaulted scores of women?  (Hillary called the women’s charges, “Bimbo eruptions.)

Will your conscience vote for a woman who’s been called “extremely careless” by the FBI?

And let me ask again, will your conscience permit you to allow Hillary Clinton to nominate four or more Supreme Court Justices, who enjoy lifetime appointments?

A vote for a Third Party candidate or boycotting the ballot box in November is a vote for Hillary…a violation of the conscience many claim the desire to protect.

Trump’s not perfect…not even close.  And we really don’t know how America will fare under a Trump/Pence Administration.  Clinton’s track record speaks for itself; Hillary’s term in office might be America’s death knell.

So I ask, do you really care about our kids?

God’s Not In Panic Mode

In John 6, we find one account of the feeding of the five thousand. The people flocked to Jesus for various reasons, His teaching, preaching, and healing amassed multitudes wherever His Father led. On this occasion, the day grew long, and the remote location offered no resources to feed the hungry people before sending them home. John 6: 5 and following shares:

Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.

The key insight to hone in on is that Jesus had already formulated a plan to meet the needs of the people.

As we race toward the Convention and the Presidential election in November, it appears panic has settled over true Conservatives in the Republican Party. Every day Never Trumps and Trump supporters fire salvos at each other, neither budging or giving ground. I’ll admit a wave of panic washed over me when Cruz suspended his campaign. With concern for the future of Conservatism, I noted Low Information Voters existed in BOTH parties. And yes, that aggravates me. And I’m especially disappointed in Evangelicals who chose to support Trump over a true Conservative like Ted Cruz. That being said, I won’t spend the next few months, worrying about a Clinton or Trump Administration. Fretting and hand wringing won’t change the course of Providence…note the capital “P.”

It is God who sets up kings and deposes them. Daniel 2:21 shares:

“He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.”

Daniel 4:17 reiterates the truth:

“The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will and sets over it the lowliest of men.”

A clear understanding of these truths show that politics is merely a method God uses to accomplish His will. Even though less than savory politicians abuse their political muscle, meaning it for evil, God uses it for good. Concerning our Country’s return to biblical principles, we mustn’t believe political entities are wielding the keys to Revival. If a spiritual awakening ignites in America, it will happen when the Church in lockstep marches into the world shining the Light of Christ.

Does this mean Christians should stay home on election day? Absolutely not! Where we have a voice and can elect our leaders, we should exercise that right by voting for those whose views most closely parallel our own.

Might we be disappointed in November’s outcome? Sure.  But it’s quite possible, even likely, that America’s suffered under the Obama Administration because our Country’s acting like a petulant child.  The Bible states,

“God disciplines those He loves.”

Raising strong-willed children often requires a lesson be taught multiple times.  Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed America rush to “hell in a handbasket.”  Should we really expect Him to give the Country a godly principled leader when we’ve thumbed our noses at Him?  II Peter 3:3 says,

“…scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.”

Isn’t that a perfect synopsis of the world today?

Maybe, just maybe, we’re seeing a rapid decline in morality because Gabriel’s holding the trumpet to his lips.  Maybe, just maybe, God’s about ready to send Jesus back for His Bride.  No matter the reason for our societal plunge into a cesspool, God’s not in panic mode and He has in mind what He’s going to do.

Unlike a politician’s pledge, we can take God’s promises to the bank.

Just Look Down…Addressing the Bathroom Debate

So God created humankind in His image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

As a young teenager, I remember accidentally walking into the wrong public bathroom.  Once inside, I noted something strangely missing from the walls…urinals.  Immediately, I realized the error of my boysgirlsways and rushed out, avoiding eye contact with anyone in the near vicinity.  I looked at the “male” and “female” bathroom signs. Yep, I certainly had chosen the wrong restroom.  It was a perfectly honest mistake, though.  At every other McDonald’s I’d visited, the male bathroom was situated on the right.  Without checking the signage, I chose the bathroom based upon its location in other franchises.  Thankfully, I wasn’t greeted by a woman inside.  I would’ve been mortified and possibly considered some type of pervert or peeping Tom.  Things have really changed since then.  Today, I could walk into any Target woman’s restroom, as a male, explaining I identify as a female.  No. Questions. Asked. And now it appears the Obama Administration is paving the way for males and females to share the same bathrooms and locker rooms in the Public School System.  You can read about that, here.

America’s definitely “tripping down the rabbit hole.”

What could possibly go wrong with boys gaining access to girl’s bathrooms?  Surely pedophiles and wildly hormonal young men won’t take advantage of this edict from the most Liberal Presidential Administration in the history of the United States.  Can you really imagine high school and fraternity boys temporarily identifying as females to ogle girls in the locker room showers?

I can.

Liberals have evolved from “It takes a village” to “It takes a village idiot,” and idiocy is the word that best describes this ideologically driven catastrophe emanating from the White House. Those pushing this garbage, do so from their ivory palaces, distancing themselves and their families from the detrimental outcomes.  For instance, President Obama’s daughters attend a pricey private institution of learning.  I imagine every time either of the First Daughters’ need to access the facilities, the Secret Service swoops in and clears the bathroom.  Whenever suggested policies like this are passed down from D.C., only the peasants pay the price, while the political elitists toast to tolerance and inclusion.

At some point America has to say enough is enough!

II Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

Instead of fleeing evil, our world chases after it like a moth to a flame.  Opening the door of our bathrooms and locker rooms to all genders or gender identities opens another Pandora’s Box in our already sin sick world.  Depending upon the leadership elected in November, it may take years to slam it shut.  Obviously the President timed this decree perfectly.  With few school days remaining, he’s counting on the typical short memory of Americans.  If you send your children to public schools, I encourage you to call your Superintendent’s office and demand the school district rebuff the wishes of the Obama Administration.

This morning my twelve year old weighed in on this topic.  He said,

“It’s not hard to tell girls from boys.  All they have to do is look down.”

Looking down might help, but first we need to look up.

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

What Happened to the Black and White World?

At 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday, I carve out a thirty minute lunch break to eat a sandwich and watch one of the greatest shows of all time…Andy Griffith.  I don’t care for the newer, colorized shows featuring Warren instead of Barney.  No, I love watching the old black and white episodes and laughing at the antics of Andy and Barney.  I’ve introduced this classic television to my kids and they also enjoy it.  The Andy Griffith show tickles the funny bone and often weaves a valuable moral lesson amidst the laughs.  When the show’s on and my kids are watching, I can leave the room and not worry about my children’s eyes or ears being assaulted by raunchy images or vile language.  The episodes clearly point out the evils of lying and gossip and the importance of loyalty and obeying the “Golden Rule.”  Not only were the early shows filmed in black and white, but the morals were taught in definite shades of black and white…No gray areas to confuse the young and the young at heart.

We no longer live in a black and white world.

Our culture preaches a doctrine referred to as “moral relativism.”  In other words, what might not be right for you may be right for me…and vice versa.  Our society has shoved moral absolutes from the public sphere and replaced them with moral ambiguities.  Behaviors and lifestyles once deemed universally sinful are now championed in sitcoms like “Modern Family.”  Fifty years ago, Andy Griffith implied to a gathering of men that if there were no women around, man wouldn’t be able to enjoy a married life.  Today, that statement would be met with outrage and the perpetrator of the verbal insensitivity would be harassed until he apologized.  Somewhere between Myer’s Lake and 21st century America, we’ve lost our moral compass.

Maybe it started in the 1960’s during the reign of free love and hallucinogenic drugs.  Maybe it started when one woman’s hatred for God precipitated the eventual ousting of prayer from the public schools.  Maybe it started when the highest court in the land found a woman’s right to abortion to be scrawled in the Constitution of the United States.  Or maybe it started earlier, much earlier, when the Enemy promised godhood to humanity for a forbidden bite of tantalizing fruit.

And therein lies the problem today.  We desire to be gods, creating our own lists of do’s and don’ts, disregarding and ignoring the truths of the Bible.  If God’s “Thou shalt nots” cramp our style or our own adopted morals and values, we toss them aside, explaining the Bible’s out of touch with 21st century crowds.  Sadly, we forget that even though people might “evolve” on morals, God does not.

It’s interesting to note that the Andy Griffith show is set in Mayberry, North Carolina.  Neighborly, upstanding, and God-fearing would be a few of the adjectives to describe its population.  Today, Bruce Springsteen canceled a concert appearance in North Carolina because a law passed requiring men and women to use their own restrooms.  Can you imagine the outrage in Mayberry if a man trotted into a woman’s bathroom?  Andy and Barney would haul him off to jail and seek to find the individual help.  Finding that person help today is deemed insensitive and bigoted.

“Let people be who they want to be, ” they cry.

How about being the person God created him to be? Novel idea, huh?

Well, not a novel.  It’s a Bible idea.

I don’t believe the future of America hinges on this next Presidential election.  I believe it hinges upon the actions of Christian people.  Throughout the last few decades, we’ve failed to protest the leftist turn of our Country for fear of being labeled intolerant.  But it’s that silence which allows the voices of aberrant behavior to dominate the conversation and to hijack the culture.  No, we cannot remain silent.  We must teach our children right and wrong, black and white values without  cracks and crevices for the “But what ifs…”

But where do we begin?  There’s one step we must take before jumping into the cultural fray.  It’s found in II Chronicles 7:14,

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land.”

I challenge you to personal revival, then to join the people of God in battling for the soul of America.  And if our Country chooses to vote for a “Third Obama” term and drive a stake through the heart of America, then keep your eyes fastened on the Eastern sky, for surely Jesus’ return is soon.

“Come quickly Lord Jesus.”

Trashing a Picasso

Imagine for a moment strolling down the streets of Madrid, admiring the sights and sounds of Spain’s Capitol city.  Outside the Plaza de Torres, you hear the shrieks and cheers of the spectators as a matador playfully teases a charging bull.  You note street vendors hawking their wares under another typical cloudless sky.  And then you see him, the master.  Pablo Picasso is standing outside his studio, a paintbrush and pallet in hand.  Hunched with age, he stares with determination, surveying the blank canvas.

You watch with great interest as the artist dabs his pallet and swipes his brush across the canvass in shades of blue and blue green.   Minutes pass.  Maybe hours.  Then unprovoked, you push the artisan from his easel and grab the partially completed masterpiece.  Finding a dumpster, you toss the painting in the trash receptacle, proudly rubbing your hands together in victory.  Pablo demands to know your motives.  You turn a deaf ear, only commenting it wasn’t really a painting because it wasn’t completed.

Can you imagine the audacity, the gall, the absolute lunacy of such a deed?  I mean we’re talking Pablo Picasso, one of the most renowned painters of all time.  Even a partial painting buried under another completed work fetches stunning amounts of money at auction.  No, to trash a Picasso at any stage of the process would be absolutely foolish and tragic on many levels.

So, what about God and babies?

Psalm 139:13-16 says,

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.  16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Note the artistic language in the passage.  God knits us together.  We are woven in the depths of the earth.  Both phrases teach of God’s intricate design as He plants a person in the womb of an expectant mother.  According to the Scriptures, we are God’s masterpieces.  If that’s so, why is the womb a dangerous place?

At the most recent Democratic Town Hall meeting, Bret Baier asked Bernie Sanders if there should be a point in pregnancy when life should be protected.  Bernie Sanders said,

“I am very strongly pro-choice.  That is a decision to be made by the woman, her physician, and her family.  That’s my view.”

In other words, Sanders supports an abortion at any point during a woman’s pregnancy.  Isn’t this like the person in Madrid trashing a Picasso before being signed and sold in an art gallery?  There’s still much worth and value to the unfinished project because of the artist’s reputation.  Completed or not, the canvass still deserves the title of “Masterpiece.”

How much more then should the creative genius of God be honored, respected, treasured and preserved?  Liberals rally around the eggs of eagles and the endangered Delta Smelt in California.  Why not babies?  Classifying babies in the womb as “fetuses” serves to fool people into believing the fledgling developing is something other than human.  The word “fetus” means “unborn offspring of a human.”  And what is the unborn offspring called?

A baby.

I love reading Dr. Seuss to my children.  Though I know nothing about his political ideologies, he espoused a pro-life view whether he intended to or not.  My favorite Seuss work is “Horton Hears a Who.” My favorite line from the book reads,

“A person’s a person no matter how small.”

Let’s not trash the life of the unborn, and let’s not support a candidate with a staunchly held position that abortion should be allowed at any stage of the pregnancy.  Our politicians are quick to point fingers at ISIS and categorize them as barbarians.  Yet, our culture rips a baby from the womb and toasts the right to do so.

Can you imagine one million Picassos treated as common trash, tossed into a bin awaiting a furnace?  Certainly not.   Then why do we treat God’s masterpieces with triviality and inconsequence?  Each step of the developmental process highlights the creativity of God, the finished project birthed in nine months.  To believe otherwise showcases humanities’ desire to evict God from His own art studio.  Again, ridiculous.   God will not be mocked.  At some point, His righteous Hand of judgment will no longer be stayed.

May God have mercy on our souls.

Why Not Respectability?

A few days ago, my 11 year old posed the following question:  Dad, who have been your favorite Presidents. I thought a moment and responded, “Lincoln, Reagan, Washington, not necessarily in that order.” He followed up with another question: Why? Several thoughts came to mind, but I limited my answer to two reasons. They were respectable men, acknowledging the importance of God to help direct the course of a Nation.  My son considered my response then asked the $64,000 question.  If those traits are important, then why are people so excited about Trump?

I’ve tuned into each Republican Debate, watching with great interest the back and forth between the frontrunner, Trump, and the other Candidates contending for the Republican nomination.  My two oldest occasionally sit and watch the drama unfold.  Both question the facial expressions and mannerisms of Trump, his disrespect for his opponents and anyone who questions his ideology or his ability to lead.  The last debate stooped to a new low as Trump and Rubio sparred over his hand size and how that directly correlates to another physical attribute.  Maybe I’m too young to remember, but did any of this crude diatribe occur between Reagan and Carter.  I don’t even think Bill Clinton stooped this low…well, at least on the debate stage.

Sadly, our culture has devolved into a society of celebrity worship.  For whatever reason, we tend to accept the mudslinging, the profane, and the over-the-top antics of celebrities, explaining away the behavior as “that’s just Hollywood.”  Can anyone imagine Donald Trump leading the pack had he not hosted a successful reality show for years?

Are any of the candidates perfect?  Of course not, but at least some act with Presidential decorum.  Imagine for a moment Trump hosting a press conference with Putin in the Rose Garden.  Putin expresses a dissenting view of President Trump’s ideology and “the Donald” shrugs, makes faces, snorts, and calls him “Little Putin?”  Is he truly the man we want representing the United States of America?

American made history when electing Obama, the first bi-racial individual to hold the highest office in the land.  Many people voted for Obama, not because of his policies or his experience, but because he was a “rock star” in the Democrat party, a celebrity of sorts, and they wanted to help America do something that had never been done before.  (Why they re-elected him, I’ll never know….)Voting for Trump because he starred on the Apprentice, makes as much sense as voting for a Candidate that’s under FBI investigation.

And maybe the single most important reason for not supporting Trump is his answer on repentance.  When asked if he’d ever confessed his sin, he said no and suggested it was better to keep God out of his mistakes.  A man who thinks God isn’t necessary for forgiveness is a man determined to govern a Country without the leading Hand of Providence.  Can America survive another four to eight years of a Narcissist and Chief in the Oval Office?  Only by the grace of God…..

Oh, and by the way….if you believe Mexico’s going to pay for the wall, I’ve got some prime ocean front property for sale….in Arizona.

Outlawing Biblical Values? It’s Coming!

The erosion of the rights of Believers continues at a dizzying pace. A landmark decision in Massachusetts now sets the stage for a continued attack upon those espousing Conservative Christian values. A Catholic preparatory school for girls, whose mission is

“the education of young women rooted in gospel values and the teachings of the Catholic Church,”

is learning this lesson the hard way.

In 2013, the Fontbonne Academy sought to hire a food services director and offered the job to applicant Matthew Barrett. During the interview process, Mr. Barrett was told that all school employees were expected to model Catholic teachings and values. Mr. Barrett responded his willingness and ability to abide by the school’s standards. The school extended the offer of employment and he accepted.

A few days later, that offer of employment was rescinded. On his new employee form, Mr. Barrett listed his husband as an emergency contact. The school responded swiftly, informing him that they could hire someone in a same-sex marriage because that type of relationship isn’t consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. This marriage failed to meet the criteria of living up to and upholding the teachings and values of Catholic and Bible doctrine.

Matthew Barrett filed a lawsuit against the Academy, challenging the school’s policy. In December of 2015, a judge ruled in favor of Mr. Barrett, stating the school had acted contrary to Massachusetts law by discriminating against Matthew Barrett based on his sexual orientation. The judge argued that since the school accepts students of all faiths and because a food service director does not meet the criteria of a “minister of the Gospel,” the school does not qualify for a religious exemption.

The judge failed to take into consideration that the Catholic Church has always opposed same sex marriage and that the Academy’s hiring agreement clearly stated all employees were expected to support and model Catholic teachings. This ruling punished a religious school for hiring someone living a lifestyle expressly considered as sinful both in Catholic teachings and in the Word of God. Sadly, the judge ignored the specific exception under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission:

“Religious Organization Exception: Under Title VII, religious organizations are permitted to give employment preference to members of their own religion. The exception applies only to those institutions whose “purpose and character are primarily religious.” Factors to consider that would indicate whether an entity is religious include: whether its articles of incorporation state a religious purpose; whether its day-to-day operations are religious (e.g., are the services the entity performs, the product it produces, or the educational curriculum it provides directed toward propagation of the religion?); whether it is not-for-profit; and whether it affiliated with, or supported by, a church or other religious organization.
This exception is not limited to religious activities of the organization. However, it only allows religious organizations to prefer to employ individuals who share their religion.” (Emphasis mine.)

Webster’s defines religion as,

“a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.”

In ruling against the Academy, the judge ignored the religious institution’s right to hire individuals of like faith and practice. Of course, people warned of this government overreach and outcome prior to the Supreme Court legalizing gay marriage in 2015. Now, those staunchly opposed to redefining the marital relationship instituted by God, find themselves in the cross hairs of a culture adamantly opposed to all things Christian.
The fate of Christianity and Conservatism hinges not on the outcome of the 2016 election cycle. (Although, we definitely need to elect an individual that embraces Christian values and American Exceptionalism.) No, the future of this great nation depends upon Christians fervently practicing the following:

1. Humbly repenting of sin (II Chronicles 7:14)
2. Seeking God (II Chronicles 7:14)
3. Praying for our Country and for God’s Spirit to move mightily (II Chronicles 7:14, I Thess. 5:17)
4. Being Salt and Light (Matthew 5:13-16)

If we faithfully adhere to God and His Word, He pledges to

“hear from Heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land.”

If we as a Country ignore Him, boo Him, or flatly deny His existence, then future generations might read of America as only an asterisk in the history books of the world. Our children and children’s children deserve a better outcome. I’m praying for a better outcome.

Will you?

Are You Distracted?

As a child, I heard adults say on many occasions that time seems to fly by faster as one ages.  Honestly, I never knew the reality of that statement until becoming an adult.  It does seem each year passes by at a faster clip.  Here we sit on the eve of 2016 and I’m just now used to writing ‘2015’ on my personal checks.  Maybe the days speed by in a blur because of our hectic schedules and varied obligations.  We run here, race there, barely finding time to breathe.  Careers monopolize much of our time with the other waking hours spent shuttling kids to basketball games, theater practice, or church activities.  Seldom do we simply pause and consider the most important things of life.

There’s a story found in the Gospels addressing the importance of this ‘pause.’  Mary and Martha find themselves in the position of hosting Jesus and the Disciples.  Martha immediately concerns herself with preparing a meal for thirteen men.  I can see Martha rummaging through the cupboards, pulling ingredients, cooking utensils and slipping on an apron.  As she organizes her thoughts, she realizes her sister hasn’t joined her in the kitchen.  I see her peeking into the living room, hoping to lock eyes with Mary.  When Mary ignores her sister’s laser like glare, I see Martha banging pots together and clearing her throat in an abnormally loud manner.  When all efforts to draw Mary’s attention fail, she takes her complaint to the Master.

“Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Martha assumes Jesus will side with her, sending Mary to help shoulder the work of meal preparation.  I see Martha crossing her arms with a smirk as she readies for Jesus gentle reprimand of her slacking sister.  However, Jesus responds in a manner completely unexpected.

“Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset  about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

What had Mary chosen? To sit at the feet of Jesus.

The chore of fixing a meal distracted Martha from sitting at the Teacher’s feet.  In two thousand years, not much has changed.  We live in a society full of distractions.  News agencies seldom focus on the real issues, magnifying minor stories to protect their political ideologies.  For those unwilling to investigate for themselves, the journalistic “sleight of hand” keeps the masses uninformed.  This strategy bodes well for ideologues weaving webs of destruction to topple American Exceptionalism.  But there’s even a greater problem.  Christians.  Yes, Christians.

For years, followers of Christ have chosen to sit quietly on the sidelines watching America’s harrowing ride to “hell in a hand basket.”  Christians remained silent when one loud and overbearing atheist complained about prayer in schools.  When Roe versus Wade was argued at the Supreme Court, Christians largely held their tongues disbelieving a refined society would be allowed to legally destroy the life of an unwanted child.  And now, decades later, when Christians voice concerns, their views are largely ignored or dismissed as being intolerant.  And why?  Because only a small percentage of Christians choose to speak up.  Many Christians continue to believe a polite society avoids religious and political topics.  Based upon the current political and ideological climate of our Country, maybe that old philosophy needs to be tossed aside.

If we truly care about the future of our children and grandchildren we must take those truths we learn at the feet of Jesus and implement them in the world around us.  Remember, Jesus informed His disciples to

“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God the thing that our God’s.”

This holds true provided Caesar’s edicts steer clear of conflicting with the Law of God.  When the Government enacts laws failing to honor Biblical truths, we must stand firm on the Word of God.  We must remove the self-imposed muzzle from our mouths and make our voices heard.  That’s my intent as we embark upon another new year.

As for me and my House, we will serve the Lord.

George Washington – A Providential President

I found this historical account online and it’s too good not to share.  We need God to raise up a leader like George Washington once again.

The Bullet Proof President

From America’s Godly Heritage by David Barton Wallbuilders.com

This story of George Washington once appeared in virtually every student text in America, but hasn’t been seen in the last forty years.   This story deals with George Washington when he was involved in the French and Indian War as a young man only twenty-three years of age.

The French and Indian War occurred twenty years before the American Revolution.  It was the British against the French; the Americans sided with the British; and most of the Indians sided with the French.  Both Great Britain and France disputed each others’ claims of territorial ownership along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers; both of them claimed the same land.

Unable to settle the dispute diplomatically, Great Britain sent 2300 hand-picked, veteran British troops to America under General Edward Braddock to rout the French.

The British troops arrived in Virginia, where George Washington (colonel of the Virginia militia) and 100 Virginia buckskins joined General Braddock.  They divided their force; and General Braddock, George Washington, and 1300 troops marched north to expel the French from Fort Duquesne — now the city of Pittsburgh.  On July 9, 1755 — only seven miles from the fort — while marching through a wooded ravine, they walked right into an ambush; the French and Indians opened fire on them from both sides.

But these were British veterans; they knew exactly what to do.  The problem was, they were veterans of European wars.  European warfare was all in the open.  One army lined up at one end of an open field, the other army lined up at the other end, they looked at each other, took aim, and fired.  No running, no hiding, But here they were in the Pennsylvania woods with the French and Indians firing at them from the tops of trees, from behind rocks, and from under logs.

When they came under fire, the British troops did exactly what they had been taught; they lined up shoulder-to-shoulder in the bottom of that ravine — and were slaughtered. At the end of two hours, 714 of the 1300 British and American troops had been shot down; only 30 of the French and Indians had been shot.

There were 86 British and American officers involved in that battle; at the end of the battle, George Washington was the only officer who had not been shot down off his horse — he was the only officer left on horseback.

Following this resounding defeat, Washington gathered the remaining troops and retreated back to Fort Cumberland in western Maryland, arriving there on July 17, 1755.

The next day, Washington wrote a letter to his family explaining that after the battle was over, he had taken off his jacket and had found four bullet holes through it, yet not a single bullet had touched him; several horses had been shot from under him, but he had not been harmed.   He told them:

By the all powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation.

Washington openly acknowledged that God’s hand was upon him, that God had protected him and kept him through that battle.

However, the story does not stop here.  Fifteen years later, in 1770 — now a time of peace — George Washington and a close personal friend, Dr. James Craik, returned to those same Pennsylvania woods.  An old Indian chief from far away, having heard that Washington had come back to those woods, traveled a long way just to meet with him.

He sat down with Washington, and face-to-face over a council fire, the chief told Washington that he had been a leader in that battle fifteen years earlier, and that he had instructed his braves to single out all the officers and shoot them down.  Washington had been singled out, and the chief explained that he personally had shot at Washington seventeen different times, but without effect.  Believing Washington to be under the care of the Great Spirit, the chief instructed his braves to cease firing at him.  He then told Washington:

I have traveled a long and weary path that I might see the young warrior of the great battle….I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle.

The Bible instructs that it’s God who brings people to power.  Let’s pray God brings to power an individual who will right our Country’s sinking ship.
