Freedom of Speech

Where’s My America?

RonaldReagan

My favorite President, hands-down, is Ronald Reagan.  I remember 52 American hostages marching from a compound, released from an Iranian prison minutes after President Reagan was sworn into office.  I swelled with pride.

I remember Ronald Reagan standing at the base of the Brandenburg Gate, near the Berlin Wall delivering a hopeful speech to the people of West Berlin:

“In the 1950s, Khrushchev predicted: ‘We will bury you.’ But in the West today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity and well-being unprecedented in all human history. In the Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards of health, even want of the most basic kind–too little food. Even today, the Soviet Union still cannot feed itself. After these four decades, then, there stands before the entire world one great and inescapable conclusion: Freedom leads to prosperity. Freedom replaces the ancient hatreds among the nations with comity and peace. Freedom is the victor.

And then the line known to the entire civilized world:

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”

Two years later, the people of a freed East Berlin tore down that wall.

Reagan’s determination and drive to see Communism topple, reminded all of the President’s desire for America to be a “shining city on a hill.”  I swelled with pride.

For two terms, the “Gipper’s” speeches never failed to invoke America’s greatness.  Due to the lackluster and feckless Presidency of Jimmy Carter, Reagan ushered in a new era of hope and Patriotism.

Yes, I miss the Reagan years.

Fast forward to 2001.

Though many bash George W. Bush, I appreciated his leadership in the first few hours and days after 9/11.  (I shudder to think the outcome had America been under the leadership of Al Gore.)  The President visited Ground Zero to thank the emergency personnel working to find people buried in the rubble of the Twin Towers.  At one point, he climbed atop the remains of a crumpled fire truck and spoke to the firefighters.  Someone shouted, “I can’t hear you.”  The President grabbed a bullhorn and said,

“I hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people who knocked down these buildings are going to hear from all of us soon.”

My heart broke the day jihadists turned planes into torpedoes, but something about a Texan living in the White House brought hope that America wouldn’t cower to evil, but would take the fight to our enemies’ homeland.  And that’s what happened.  I swelled with pride.

Since 2008, I can’t think of many reasons to be proud of our Country’s leadership.  Sure, Americans elected the first African American to the highest office in the Land…but that “accomplishment” rested solely in the hands of the voters.  From personal conversations, I have discovered many voted for Barack Obama, not because of his political experience, but because of his skin tone.  Some who had never voted for a Democrat previously, jumped on the “Let’s make American History” bandwagon.  But since his election and re-election, has the President accomplished anything of merit?

In 2009, the President boasted that his Stimulus bill would create “shovel ready” jobs.  What happened?  Nothing.  While meeting with the Jobs and Competiveness Council in Durham, NC, the President chuckled as he announced,

“Shovel-ready was not as shovel ready as we expected.”

In fact, not only has job creation been stagnant, but  millions have been added to the rolls of government assistance.  This certainly doesn’t instill pride.

Our status in the eyes of the world has diminished as well.  Israel wonders if we are truly an ally.  We allow Russia to run roughshod over the Ukraine.  ISIS rampages across the Middle East, leaving in its wake a trail of destruction and bloodshed.  Our deal with the Iranians prompted celebrations in Iran.  (If Iran thinks they received a good deal, doesn’t that insure America didn’t?)

And on the American home front?  This Administration has cranked up race relations rhetoric, throwing fuel on the smoldering cities of Ferguson and Baltimore.  Now, Black Lives Matter and Louis Farakhan have challenged African Americans to wage a war on white people and our law enforcement officers.  What does our President do?  Snaps selfies by a glacier to propagate his climate change agenda.  Not much to be proud of there either.

And then there’s our President’s misguided view of heroes.  In my eyes, military personnel deserve our respect and gratitude.  Also, those who put on a uniform to keep us safe on our city streets.  Mr. Obama seldom honors men and women willing to lay down their lives for the American people, but rushes to congratulate a homosexual who decides to openly play on a professional sports team.  It’s hard to show pride in that.

Lastly, a freedom I never dreamed vulnerable is currently battling a national agenda to normalize the Gay/Lesbian/Transgender Lifestyle.  Pilgrims risked life and limb to come to shores of America to insure their freedom to worship how they pleased, when they pleased.  Today, their sacrifice seems almost futile as the Leftist agenda strives to relegate religious practice to the Church building.  However, nowhere does the Constitution demand we compromise our religious convictions once we leave the shadow of the Church steeple.  It’s impossible to take pride in diminished religious liberty.

I still love America, but maybe my adoration stems from memories past instead of a hopeful present and an anticipated bright future.  I pray our generation rises to claim this Country for God and that He rescues her from teetering on the precipice of destruction.  If we fail to turn, I tremble at the thought of America’s demise.  I hope our kids aren’t the first generation to dwell in the largest third world country in the world.

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Are Sanctuary Cities Biblical?

For the last several days, one of the key stories dominating headlines focuses on the senseless murder of Kathryn Steinle.  Francisco Sanchez, a five time deported alien with seven felonies under his belt, shot her in cold blood on a San Francisco pier.  The young woman, with a life full of potential, perished because the “City by the Bay” harbored this known felon, protecting him from deportation because of the city’s “sanctuary” status.

Across America, illegals can find refuge in over 300 different counties and cities, but the recent murder of Ms. Steinle has precipitated the debate over whether such sanctuaries should actually exist or if they’re even legal.  Pundits expect this most recent crime and the existence of illegal havens to be a political hot potato going into the 2016 election cycle.  Ideologies range from Donald Trump’s

“send all the illegals packing”

to Fox News Contributor Jehmu Greene’s characterization of illegals as

“undocumented Americans.”

Some armchair theologians argue “sanctuary cities” are fine because the Bible says so.

That’s where the line must be drawn.

People who believe sanctuary cities are biblical, confuse sanctuary cities with “cities of refuge” as described in the Old Testament book of Numbers.  Numbers 35:11-34 teaches that a city of refuge was a place a person could flee to if he was responsible for the death of another individual.  GotQuestions.org shares the following about the cities of refuge:

The Mosaic Law stated that anyone who committed a murder was to be put to death (Exodus 21:14). But for unintentional deaths, God set aside these cities to which the murderer could flee for refuge (Exodus 21:13). He would be safe from the avenger—the family member charged with avenging the victim’s death (Numbers 35:19)—until the case could go to trial. The congregation would judge to find if the attacker acted unintentionally. If he did, he would return to the city of refuge and live there safely until the death of the high priest who was in office at the time of the trial, at which point he could return to his property. If the attacker left the city of refuge before the death of the high priest, however, the avenger would have the right to kill him (Numbers 35:24-28).

In other words, the city of refuge was a place for the accused to await trial and find safe harbor from vigilante justice.  Sanctuary cities?  Not so much.

Sanctuary cities shelter known alien lawbreakers from prosecution and deportation efforts by the Federal Government.  These efforts to shield illegals ignore the Federal immigration laws.  Republican Representative Duncan Hunter from California will again introduce legislation targeting sanctuary cities.  His bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to restrict funding to any locale ignoring federal immigration policies.   In other words, authorities serving in sanctuary cities would be once again authorized and instructed to question the

“citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

Of course this outrages the far left , those who are unapologetically politically correct, and those who fear “targeting” of minorities.

This tragic murder exposed the very real problem of Sanctuary Cities harboring convicted felons with non-citizen status.  Even Democrats once on record for supporting such cities are backpedaling….and fast.
Oh…and those pointing out Scripture to support asylum for illegal aliens?  Well, that’s just laughable…

What Bible Has Jimmy Carter Been Reading?

I’m not sure what Bible Jimmy Carter’s been reading, but concerning gay marriage, the former President said this:

“I believe Jesus would. I don’t have any verse in scripture. … I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else,” he said.

So, would Jesus really support same sex marriage?

First, let me be perfectly clear. God loves gay people. How do I know? Well, John 3:16 states,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Note, God fails to insert an asterisk or add a disclaimer. No Christian familiar with the teachings of the Bible argues God’s love for all people.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

But God’s love for people does not change His views on morality.  God’s view of sin doesn’t evolve.

When thinking about how Jesus handled the issue of sin in people’s lives, I often cite the story of the woman caught in adultery. Jesus demonstrates the model of

‘Hate the sin, love the sinner.’

One day as Jesus taught, religious leaders dragged a woman from the bed of an adulterous liaison and dumped her at the Master’s feet. The religious leaders circled, spewing judgment on the woman, reminding Jesus and all within earshot about the Law. For her infidelity, she deserved the prescribed punishment – a public stoning.

In response to their vitriol, Jesus stooped and scrawled something in the dirt, then stood and challenged,

“You who are sinless cast the first stone.”

I’ve often wondered what Jesus wrote. I doubt He wasted His time on doodling stick figures. I wonder if He jotted a list of sins with which these men struggled. Maybe He wrote the words, “pride,” lust,” or the word that labeled the actions of the religious leaders – “entrapment.” (How did these men know about this woman’s indiscretion and the ability to catch her in the arms of a man not her husband?)

As these men cast aspersions at the woman and questioned Jesus’ handling of the situation, I imagine their words trailed off as they watched Jesus write. If Jesus enumerated a list of transgressions, as each man’s besetting sin appeared, the Spirit of God pricked their hearts. When He stood to authorize the first hurled stone, each dropped his rocks, slinking away. Jesus asked,

“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?

“No one sir,” she replied

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared.

Those demanding acceptance of ungodly lifestyles, quote only the first part of Jesus’s statement, adding:

“See Christians, Jesus didn’t condemn and neither should you!”

But what many conveniently ignore is that Jesus added the following exhortation,

“Go and leave your life of sin.”

Jesus would say the same thing to a gay couple seeking Christ’s approval for a same sex marriage today.

Arm chair theologians argue Jesus never addressed same sex marriage, thereby claiming homosexual unions are left up to the discretion of the people choosing them.  Granted, in the Gospels we find no mention of gay unions, but Jesus does address the definition of Biblical marriage.  In Matthew 19:4-6 Jesus says,

“And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH ‘?”So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”…

Jesus doesn’t add,

“Oh and that’s why men marry each other and women marry each other as well.”

That’s not God’s standard for marriage.

Obviously, Jimmy Carter supports the ruling of the Supreme Court and the edict for all states to acknowledge same sex marriage.  Sadly, the Left fails to see this as a governmental overreach and a threat to exercising religious freedom.  And though the highest court in the land has vacated Christian principles, nowhere is it written that a Christian’s morals and conscience are to be abandoned once vacating the shadow of the steeple.  If the Government resorts to stripping Churches of their tax exempt status for failing to recognize same sex marriage, they’re gambling with America’s future…but God’s holding all of the cards.

Jimmy Carter holds the distinction of being a former United States President, but God’s not so impressed that He takes Carter’s view of Scripture into advisement. The Host of Heaven will never hear God say,

“Gabriel, I’ve been wrong about homosexuality…In fact, ‘Modern Family’ and Jimmy Carter changed my view…”

Nor will God’s view evolve on adultery, pre-marital sex, pedophilia, rape, incest, etc.

“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  Hebrews 13:7-8

Who is Jesus?  According to John chapter one, He is the very “Word” of God.  In other words, the Word of God does not change or evolve to cater to the whims of those looking for a lifestyle to be sanctioned.

Simply put, no Mr. President, Jesus would not approve of same sex marriage.

This Morning I Cried

This morning as I scrolled Facebook, I clicked on a YouTube video, posted by a friend, of the Gaither Vocal Band.  The group delivered a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.  Their tight harmonies accompanied a moving patriotic video.  As I watched, I swallowed back a lump gathering in my throat.  Then tears welled in my eyes and soon dampened my cheeks.  Yes, I’m an emotional guy, and yes, occasionally a beautifully sung song (or a “Little House” episode) moves me to tears, but neither was the reason this morning.

This morning I cried for America.

I remember the Presidencies of Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II. Under these men (even Clinton), I felt more secure in America’s future than I do now.  On 9/11, I watched in horror as planes torpedoed into the World Trade Center, but not once did I doubt America’s ability to rebuild and to stand resolute.  I remember watching proudly as George W. Bush stood on a mound of rubble proclaiming,

I can hear you, the rest of the world can hear you and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”

Now, our Country’s too busy drawing and re-drawing red lines.  Honestly, I don’t know how this current Administration would respond to another mass attack.  Would they offer the terrorists jobs? Or hugs? Label the event as workplace violence? Or would they hold a press conference to warn Americans to refrain from calling this Islamic terrorism?  Granted, this is sarcastic in nature, but how many of us really trust the current leadership in Washington to do what’s best for America?

American Enterprise Institute published a public opinion report evaluating Americans’ level of patriotism. One of the most astounding and disappointing results was the following:

Americans aren’t as proud of their country as some citizens in other countries are of their own nations. According to a World Values Survey, 98 percent of citizens in Qatar claimed to be “very proud” of their nationality. However, only 56 percent of Americans responded positively in this category.

Qatar?  Are you kidding me?  In Qatar, only Muslims can express their religion publicly, all others must conduct worship services in private homes.  Those leaving the Muslim faith face imprisonment or death.  And yet, 98% of those living in Qatar are proud of their country….How can this be?

Everyday we read of new crippling policies, court judgments, or another round of decisions being written into law by an overreaching “pen and phone.”  The Church sits on the precipice of being made obsolete as the government now attempts to shoulder the responsibility of dictating what is and isn’t sinful.  And now innoucuous entertainment is banned because of a flag that Liberals find offensive.  Many Conservative people are cowering in the shadows, fearful of offending the PC police or being investigated by rogue government agencies.  I wish the above was hyperbole, but that’s the America we currently reside in.

That’s why I cried.

I’m not weeping for myself, but for my family, especially my kids. Unless America rights this ship and charts a new course, what will our future generations face? If we’re not careful, in a few decades, America will be nothing more than a footnote in the pages of history. The Founding Fathers sacrificed too much for this to be our Country’s outcome. Too many brave men and women have paid the ultimate price on the world’s battlefields for us to surrender our freedoms to ideologies intent on destroying American exceptionalism.

At times I feel like Elijah.  After a God-given victory against the prophets of Baal, he fled from another enemy…the Queen.  He moaned that no one else was standing for God.  He thought himself to be all alone.  He suffered from a

“nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I’m just going to go eat worms”

mentality.  God reminded Elijah that there were 7,000 others who had yet to bow their knees to false gods.  Occasionally, the filthy haze of America’s ills conceals the possibility of the United States rising from the ashes to greatness again.  That’s not an impossibility. But for that to happen, America must turn wholeheartedly to God and remember the encouraging words of President Ronald Reagan,

“We are never defeated unless we give up on God.”

Keep standing Patriots, and may God once again bless the United States of America.

Saving America…and the General Lee

As a child, I looked forward to Friday night television. Every Friday evening, my family gathered around the television, anxiously awaiting the antics of the boys from Hazzard County.  I often imagined myself sitting at the wheel of the car that could fly.  We watched so regularly my siblings and I could sing the theme song, and I developed a decent impersonation of Roscoe P. Coltrane.  Yes, the “Dukes of Hazzard” conjures pleasant memories of my childhood.  I’ll have to admit, I haven’t given the show much thought since the Duke Boys drove the General Lee off into the sunset in 1985.  Although a few months ago, I scanned Netflix offerings to see if I could introduce my kids to the Duke Boys and the General Lee.  To no avail, I assumed the show would make its appearance one of these days.

That might not be the case.

After Dylan Roof murdered nine people in an historic black church in Charleston, investigators discovered pictures of Roof carrying the Confederate Flag.  Immediately, adherents of political correctness demanded the flag be banned from the Capitol Lawn in South Carolina.

Many jumped on the banning bandwagon.  The National Park Service confirms Confederate Flags were removed at Fort Sumter, the site of the first Civil War Battle, and Confederate Flag souvenirs were stripped from the gift shop shelves.  Some have called for banning the book “Gone with the Wind.”  The latest victim of political correctness is the beloved TV classic, “The Dukes of Hazzard.”  Because of the Confederate Flag flap, TV Land announced it would no longer air the show because the General Lee sports a Confederate Flag on its roof.  PGA Golfer Bubba Watson, an owner of one of the original General Lee’s, announced today that he plans to paint over the Confederate Flag, replacing it with an American Flag.  Mr. Watson announced earlier on Twitter,

“All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA

Many believe this is a necessary step forward in eradicating racism in the United States of America.  Instead, this is political correctness run amok. Not once while watching The Dukes of Hazzard did I harbor hatred of minorities.  After watching the show for six seasons, I didn’t join the Ku Klux Clan. The Duke’s never wore white hoods and burned crosses. The only reason the Confederate Flag adorned the car was to celebrate Southern pride.  Something the show expressed with…well…pride.

If the Left seriously desires to rid racism, they should start with their darling, Planned Parenthood.  Margaret Sanger founded America’s largest abortion provider for the express purpose of eradicating

“human weeds.”

Who were these undesirables as described by Sanger?  Black people, immigrants, and poor people.  As Sanger wrote in her autobiography, she founded Planned Parenthood in 1916

“to stop the multiplication of the unfit.”

Now that’s racism, but the Left adores the abortion industry and supports its mission.

“Just two good ol’ boys
never meanin’ no harm..”

Those phrases begin the theme song to the beloved show.  I wish the Left adopted the portion “never meanin’ no harm.”  But instead, they continue to stomp on the Constitution and create an America barely recognizable by a boy who dreamed of one day driving the General Lee.

Though our Country’s being run by people determined to implement a socialist’s “hope and change,” there’s still hope.  Real hope.  God’s still on the throne and the 2016 election is just around the corner.  And for that I can give a hearty,

“Yeehaw!”

And making a Conservative choice is a baby step in saving America….and the General Lee.

Would Jesus Condone Same Sex Marriage?

Response to Memories Pizza in Indiana has run the gamut. Some threatened to burn down the establisment; popular Conservative talk show host Dana Loesch set up an online fundraiser to offset the financial lost incurred by the Christian business owners. (It raised almost $850,000 dollars. Wow!) What was the crime of this popular mom and pop pizza joint? Exercising their Religious Freedom and their First Amendment rights.

A news reporter ASKED the owners of Memories Pizza if they would be willing to cater at a gay wedding. Co-Owner Kevin O’Connor responded,

“I don’t turn anybody away from the store, I don’t have a problem with gay people. I just don’t condone the marriage.”

This reply set off a firestorm reverberating across Liberal and Conservative lines. Some staunchly supporting the owners, others spewing hate and vitirol aimed at shutting Memories down.

In the last few days, social media has continued to keep the debate alive. One of my Facebook friends insists if Jesus was asked to supply a cake or build a table for a gay wedding reception, He’d do so gladly. In quoting the post,

He would sell them a table, and a darned good one at that.”

Let’s say he’s right. For those Christians standing with those who embrace the homosexual lifestyle, they stand on the argument of love, citing God’s love of all people. I don’t question the love of God for all people. John 3:16 states,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Note, God fails to insert an asterisk or offer a disclaimer. No Christian famliar with the teachings of the Bible argues God’s love for all people.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

When thinking about how Jesus handled the issue of sin in people’s lives, I often cite the story of the woman caught in adultery. Jesus demonstrates the model of ‘Hate the sin, love the sinner.’

As Jesus taught, religious leaders dragged a woman from the bed of an adulterous liaison and dropped her at the Master’s feet. The religious leaders circled, spewing judgment on the woman, reminding Jesus and all within earshot about the Law. For her infidelity, she deserved the prescribed punishment – a public stoning.

In response to their vitriol, Jesus stooped and scratched something in the dirt, then stood and challenged,

”Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?

“No one sir,” she replied

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared.

Many who demand acceptance of ungodly lifestyles, quote only the first part of Jesus’s statement. Jesus added the following exhortation,

“Go and leave your life of sin.”

Let’s visit the carpenter shop owned by Joseph, with Jesus apprenticing.   A couple living in a gay relationship request the Son of God craft a banquet table for a wedding feast.  There’s no doubt He’d make a “darned good one…” But would He condone the wedding?

I envision Jesus requiring the partners to spend time with Him in the carpenter shop, the Master sharing spiritual truths while He sawed, chiseled and sanded. I can see the partners squinting through sawdust laden air, complaining about the threats of the religious leaders to have them stoned to death.  I see Jesus listening to their concerns and maybe even saying,

“Don’t worry, there’s no condemnation here…”

But adding,

“Go and leave your lives of sin…”

Of course the couple’s taken aback.

Oh no, another armchair Rabbi ensnared by the teachings of  some antiquated scrolls…..

Many believe Jesus never addressed same sex marriage, thereby claiming homosexual unions are left up to the discretion of the people who choose them.  Maybe in the writings of the Gospels we find no mention of same sex marriage, but Jesus does address Biblical marriage.

I can imagine the couple in the carpenter shop either being convicted of their sin and repenting or leaving the shop insulted and outraged, either way the banquet table no longer necessary.

If the government forces Christian owned businesses to provide the same services to all wedding ceremonies whether straight or gay, maybe the owners should adopt a “come to the table making” strategy.  To appease both sides, the owners share their views on godly marriage, expressing truths from the Bible.  I can imagine some couples embracing the views, others tolerating the “opinions, and several storming out of the bakery, decrying “discrimination.”  But see, it wouldn’t be discriminatory with all couples submitting to free pre-marital counsel.  Of course the above is hyperbolic, but nowhere is it written that a Christian’s morals and conscience are to be left once vacating the shadow of the steeple on Sunday mornings.

Hang in there Memories Pizza, many around this great nation support you.

Benjamin Rush Warned Us

Not many recognize the name Benjamin Rush.  He served as one of the lesser known Founding Fathers and signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Normally, I post much longer entries, but tonight, as I hear of Obamacare horror stories and people being hammered with penalties and fines, I find the following quote of Benjamin Rush to be prophetic.

“The Constitution of this Republic should make special provision for medical freedom. To restrict the art of healing to one class will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic. … Unless we put medical freedom into the constitution the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship and force people who wish doctors and treatment of their own choice to submit to only what the dictating outfit offers.”**

We were warned…….

Who the Heck is Israel Bissell?

Ever heard of Israel Bissell?  No?  Me neither, until yesterday.

Israel Bissell is one of the heroes of the American Revolution who never found his way into history books.  Bissell was a 23 year old dispatch rider who left home in April of 1775 to warn the Colonists about the British invasion.  In fact, Bissell began his obscure ride on the same night Paul Revere rode with the warning,
“The British are coming.  The British are coming.”
Israel Bissell galloped south with his news and according to local legend, he rode to Worcester – normally a day’s ride – in two hours.  Witnesses claim his horse died upon arrival.  He secured another horse and rode through the States of Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania, spreading the news that farmers were facing off against the Redcoats at Lexington.  He rode 350 miles in less than a week, an accomplishment unheard of in those days.

Paul Revere only traveled 20 miles.

So why does Revere get all the accolades?

Maybe it’s because Longfellow found it easier to think of words rhyming with “Revere.”

Why do I mention Israel Bissell?  No, it’s not to condemn historians for omitting his name from history books.  I share this information to encourage those who at times feel like nobody’s.  God chooses the insignificant to bring about the significant.  Whether it be in the Kingdom of God or politics, it’s the “little” people behind the scenes who often bring about the greatest good.

In the Book of Acts, Peter and John found themselves arrested for their faith.  They shared the reason for their allegiance to Christ with the religious leaders, and the Pharisees scratched their heads, wondering how such “unschooled and ordinary men” could present their position so articulately.  Peter and John weren’t seminary graduates; they spent their lives on the Sea of Galilee dragging nets for fish.  After a little more thought, the religious leaders experienced a “light bulb” moment.  They realized these men had been with Jesus.

Being with Jesus makes a difference!

The hopes of our Country turning around hinges upon a few things:

1.  Christians returning to God.  “If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, will forgive their sin, and heal their land.”  (II Chronicles 7:14)

2.  Being people of prayer.  James 5:16 says, “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

3.  Get off the couch and enter the fray.  Don’t think your voice isn’t important.  Maybe you feel insignificant, but God uses the insignificant to accomplish great things.

You may not be the next Billy Graham, but you might just be the person who leads the future Billy Graham to Christ.  You might not be the next Paul Revere, but
you might be the next Israel Bissell.
And this world needs Israel Bissells’.
