The importance of America returning to Christian principles and Traditional Family Values

Jesus Loves the Little Children

At an early age I learned a song that sticks with me to this day:

Jesus loves the little children,

All the children of the world.

Red and yellow, black and white,

They are precious in His sight.

Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Did you sing it? Do you remember the times you sang in in Sunday School or VBS? The song reminds me of God’s love for every person in every nation. It teaches the truth of John 3:16 in a simplistic and memorable manner. And because of God’s great love for children, He hates the Mexico City policy.

In the recent flurry of executive orders, one included rescinding America’s ban on funding abortions around the globe. The White House announced that the President will issue a memorandum to “protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care” globally. Any time one sees the term “comprehensive reproductive health care,” be wary, as that’s the politically correct term for unfettered access to a woman’s right to abort the baby developing in her womb. In fact, it’s ridiculous to classify abortion as healthcare as it destroys one life and can potentially harm the mother as well.

There really is no good explanation as to why some insist on funding abortions around the world. America aborts an average of 700,000 babies per year. Is this not enough to satisfy their thirst for innocent blood? Instead of throwing dollars at other Countries enabling them greater access to “reproductive healthcare,” our Country should be working to minimize abortion, the holocaust of this generation. Since 1973, over sixty million lives have been lost. Ninety-seven percent of the time, women seek out abortions to destroy an unwanted life conceived in a moment of uncontrolled passion. Sadly, the real issue to address is the woman’s (and man’s) role in refusing to take responsibility for their actions.

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me…” Granted, whenever an unborn baby’s life ends, Jesus welcomes them into Heaven, but can this meeting bring Him pleasure? Every life conceived is created in the image of God. The Psalmist writes that we are “knit together in our mother’s womb.” Consider a person who knits. For those accomplished at the craft, they churn out beautiful pieces often times serving as gifts to loved ones. God knits together babies in their mother’s wombs as gifts to be cherished and loved, not tossed in a medical waste bin. How His heart must break when a baby conceived is viewed as a burden and not a blessing.

Yes, Jesus loves the little children.

Maybe America should do the same.

Will the Mass Shootings Ever Stop?

In the last 24 hours, two cities have suffered mass shootings. In El Paso, 20 died; in Dayton, OH nine innocents perished. There are many questions today and the Federal Enforcement Agencies seek answers. Unfortunately, these acts of violence will be politicized, each side of the aisle blaming the other for the nation’s ills. Some call for the end to “thoughts and prayers” and demand action from Congress. Of course, the ultimate goal is abolishing the Second Amendment. But will that stop the mass killings?

When people develop a thirst for blood, many avenues exist for the taking of innocent life. Knives, machetes, and moving trucks loaded down with fertilizer all function as means of mass casualty events. So, even if the government confiscated every gun in America, those determined to kill would find means of doing so. The problem isn’t guns.

The problem is the heart.

In the last few decades, God has been expelled from the schools and in more recent years there’s a concerted effort to eliminate God from all public venues. Whenever a people turns its back on God, God removes His hand of blessing. Therefore, to see a Country devolve into violence and hatred should not be surprising at all. For those decrying “thoughts and prayers,” those sentiments and actions are what the Country desperately need…but prior to mass killings…not just after.

We’ve also fostered a culture of death. When the Supreme Court ruled that women could abort babies, our Country embarked upon a journey to lose its soul. Why would anyone respect and embrace the sanctity of life, if the most innocent isn’t even protected?

Then, I believe secular humanism contributes to America’s woes. Science proliferates the lie that mankind evolved from apes. If man is only a glorified monkey, why should we expect humanity to act more humane than an animal fending for superiority in the wild? Evolution stole the place of God when educators chose to embrace a theory instead of the true teaching of the Bible.

Other problems plague our Country, but the root of all America’s difficulties is Her refusal to keep God in His proper place. Though we pin a face to those responsible for outbreaks of violence, and saddle others with blame, real or imagined, we must remember we “wrestle not against flesh and blood.” America suffers a spiritual problem. Until the United States returns to the God of our founding, we will continue to witness horrific acts in the name of….well, you fill in the blank.

Our Country needs an old fashioned revival.

Do You Love Your Kids?

God has blessed my wife and I with six children, three boys…three girls….a modern day Brady Boggs8Bunch of sorts.  When our family piles out of the Suburban or strolls into the grocery store, our presence raises eyebrows.  I wish I had a nickel for every time a person asks, “You know how that happens, right?” My favorite response is, “My wife knows, but she won’t tell me.”

Truth be told, we love kids.  It’s that plain and simple. And because we love our children, we desire a great Country for them to live in now, and for generations to come.

We (our family) associate or tend to support a political Party that champions children, starting at conception.  We always cast a ballot for those representing the Party of Life.  In today’s culture, that’s a vote for the GOP candidate.  Some argue, “But my third Party candidate is pro-life.”  That’s great, but in our overwhelmingly entrenched two-party system, a third party candidate only serves to steal votes away from either the Democrat or Republican nominee.

As the 2020 race heats up, Conservatives must get out the vote. Evangelicals must flood the polls. Those bitterly opposed to Socialism must show up at the ballot box, casting a vote to stop the proliferation of ideas destined to bring our great Country to her knees .

Am I one hundred percent convinced Trump’s a true Conservative?  Absolutely not! And by Conservatism in this case, I’m referring to Conservative Christian values. As an Evangelical Christian, some of his life’s choices cause me concern. However, his policies resonate strongly with me…championing pro-life causes, appointing Conservative judges to lifetime appointments on the Supreme Court, fighting to control the influx of illegal immigrants crushing our Southern Border, staunchly supporting Israel…All of these stances should cause Americans to take great pride in our President’s effort to “Make America Great Again.”

If Conservatives exercise apathy at all in 2020, a Socialist Candidate might waltz into the Oval office, undoing four years of progress and catapulting the Country into a spending spree that crushes average Americans with an unbearable tax burden. The Party of AOC is either completely naive about how economics work or determined to drive this Country into a third world existence. Sadly, it may be the latter. And this doesn’t even touch the lunacy of championing 56 genders, infanticide and slave reparations.

The Left has lost its mind.

And if we aren’t careful, America could lose its soul.

America, look up.

Abortionists Aren’t Superheroes

kid in cape

Our world’s infatuated with superheroes.

Once an imaginary outlet reserved for kids, even adults embrace superheroes, willing to shell out millions of dollars to watch Iron Man, Captain America, and the Avengers save the planet.

As a little boy, I often donned a bath towel, pretending my “cape” enabled me to fly from one crisis to another.  I whisked here and there, scanning my surrounding for nefarious villains.  Thankfully, my fear of heights dissuaded me from jumping from a corner of the roof to test my flying prowess.  In my eyes, superheroes served one primary purpose, saving innocent lives.

Before posting this entry, I read several blogs focusing on our infatuation with superheroes.  Every blogger without exception wrote we love guardians of the universe because they give hope.

Hope that one person can make a difference.

Hope to believe we can face every difficult task, undaunted.

Hope that good triumphs over evil.

In real life, we ascribe the tag “superhero” to our parents, military, first responders, or any other people consistent in making a difference in peoples’ lives.

Not the Left.

During Obama’s tenure, he added another demographic to the superheroes list, abortion providers. If superheroes spark hope in the hearts of humans, abortionists certainly serve as the agents to dash hope.  Those destroying futures spawn visions of the archenemies not cape wearing and shield wielding protectors of society.

The former President once used a Women’s History Month reception at the White House to bestow upon Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood, the title of a “real-life superhero.”  In his comments he said,

“We’ve got a lot of them (real life superheroes) in this room, so I want to acknowledge a couple of them.  First of all, we’ve got Cecile Richards in the house, making sure women’s health care is on the front burner.”

If Cecile Richards had solely focused on the health of women, then certainly she deserved high praise and recognition.  However, Richards served as the President of the nation’s largest abortion business.  Over 300,000 babies are slaughtered in Planned Parenthood facilities every year.

How do the actions of abortionists instill hope?

How does the action of tossing babies into large trash receptacles earn the badge of heroism?

It. Does. Not.

Pro-life advocates are the heroes.   People who operate crisis pregnancy centers offering an alternative to abortion are the heroes.   Women who choose life and birth the baby are the heroes.  Women who choose life, and although not quite ready to be a mother, give up their babies for adoption, are the heroes.  All of the above mirror the actions of superheroes, fighting to protect life and giving the “least of these” a fighting chance at a bright future.  That’s hope.

Do abortionists offer hope for a brighter future?

Not so much.

Gender Confused? Just Look Down…

So God created humankind in His image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

As a young teenager, I remember accidentally walking into the wrong public bathroom. Once inside, I noted something strangely missing from the walls…urinals.  Immediately, I realized the error of my boysgirlsways and rushed out, avoiding eye contact with anyone in the near vicinity.  I looked at the “male” and “female” bathroom signs. Yep, I certainly had chosen the wrong restroom.  It was a perfectly honest mistake, though.  At every other McDonald’s I’d visited, the male bathroom sat on the right. Without checking the signage, I chose the bathroom based upon its location in other franchises.  Thankfully, I wasn’t greeted by a woman inside.  I would’ve been mortified and possibly considered some type of pervert or peeping Tom.  Things have really changed since then.  Today, I could walk into any Target women’s restroom, as a male, explaining I identify as a female.

No. Questions. Asked.

What could possibly go wrong with boys gaining access to girl’s bathrooms?  Surely pedophiles and wildly hormonal young men won’t take advantage of the ridiculous rule championed by the Biden Administration.  It’s not hard to imagine high school and fraternity boys temporarily identifying as females to ogle girls in the locker room showers.

Can you see that happening?

I can.

Liberals have evolved from “It takes a village” to “It takes a village idiot,” and idiocy is the word that best describes this ideologically driven catastrophe. Those pushing this garbage, do so from their ivory palaces, distancing themselves and their families from the detrimental outcomes.  For instance, elitists advocating for “choice” bathrooms send their children to pricey private institutions of learning, where you guessed it, bathrooms and locker rooms have designated genders…no exceptions.  Whenever suggested policies like this are passed down from D.C., only the peasants pay the price, while the political elitists toast to tolerance and inclusion.

At some point America has to say enough is enough!

II Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

Instead of fleeing evil, our world chases after it like a moth to a flame.  Opening the door of our bathrooms and locker rooms to all genders or gender identities opens another Pandora’s Box in our already sin sick world.  Depending upon the leadership elected in 2022 and beyond, it may take years to slam it shut.

A couple of years ago my twelve year old weighed in on this topic.  He said,

“It’s not hard to tell girls from boys.  All they have to do is look down.”

Looking down might help, but first we need to look up.

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Back to the Blog

I started America Look Up several years ago, during the Obama Administration, as I watched freedoms whittling away faster than Colin Kaepernick taking a knee at the playing of the National Anthem. I posted regularly, but became disillusioned as I found the platform unable to reach more people than my mother and wife…That’s not exactly true…but my readership was in the dozens. So, I started the Black Robed Regiment on Facebook on a whim. Today, the number of followers on BRR stands just short of 7,400. (Thanks for your support!)

When I posted a question on BRR about a person’s willingness to follow a blog, several commented either “yes” or depends upon the content. You can scroll through posts from yesteryear and find that many of the posts are still relevant today as we see a wider chasm now between Conservatives and Liberals.

I would challenge you to follow along as I try to address today’s issues both politically and spiritually.

Thanks for your support.

I Want to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Raphael-2012-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-TurtlesSomething humorous happened in Children’s Church on Sunday. The lesson centered on the lives of David and Jonathan, and the meaning of being a good and trusted friend. The kids learned that a part of being a good friend involves getting to know your friend better, so we participated in a personal inventory. I asked questions like:

“What is your favorite food?”
“What is your favorite holiday?”
“What is your favorite color?”

My last question of the morning was,

“What do you want to be when you grow up?’

In our church, we combine kids aged 3 years through 4th grade. Though that may seem like a wide age disparity, children’s church usually runs fairly smoothly, with the older kids willing to help the younger. Well, when I asked the last question,

“What do you want to do when you grow up?”

I received the following answers: teacher, physician’s assistant, artist and then a three year old boy shared,

“I want to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.”

I almost giggled. (On the inside I laughed)  I noticed some of the older kids smirking and whispering about his answer, but no one made fun of the little guy. He seriously wanted to be a Ninja Turtle.
Later in the day, I thought of the following verses:

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” I Corinthians 13:11

The older children knew becoming a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wasn’t possible. Why? Because as they’ve gotten older, they’ve started putting childish ways behind them. Sadly, that’s often not the case for many Christians.  In the Kingdom of God, some never grow up spiritually. Many times I’ve asked young people, believers in Christ, what they want to be when they grow up. They share dreams of pursuing a medical degree, a teacher’s certificate, or becoming a lawyer. Others speculate they’ll skip college and go to work in a field where degrees are unnecessary. Seldom do I hear,

“I’m just waiting to see what God wants.”

I wonder if God ever considers our choices silly. I wonder if He ever smirks. Not because He’s poking fun, but because we’re missing out on His plan for our life. We might as well aspire to be a Ninja Turtle if we ignore the plan and path God has for us. Two of my favorite verses speak to this truth:

“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

We might enjoy the role of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but we will miss the blessings that God desires to bestow upon us. So let’s strip off the green cape and goggles, stow them back in the costume trunk, and focus on God’s plan for our lives. When we do, we’ll find out that His agenda trumps being a muscle bulging tortoise any day.
