Do You Really Care About Our Kids?

God has blessed my family with six children, three boys…three girls….a modern day Brady Boggs8Bunch of sorts.  When our family piles out of the Suburban or walks into the grocery store, our presence raises eyebrows.  I wish I had a nickel for every time a person asks, “You know how that happens, right?” My favorite response is, “My wife knows, but she won’t tell me.”  Truth be told, we love kids.  It’s that plain and simple.

We (our family) associate or tend to support a political Party that champions children, starting at conception.  We proudly claim to be the Party of Life.  And that’s the case for the GOP unless the preferred Candidate fails to receive the Party’s nod for nominee and then some moan and groan, threatening to support a third Party candidate or refusing to vote in November.  But my third Party candidate is pro-life, you say.  That’s great, but in our overwhelmingly entrenched two-party system, a third party candidate only serves to steal votes away from either the Democrat or Republican nominee.  In this case, Donald Trump stands to lose the most from individuals dead set against the GOP nominee.

Am I one hundred percent convinced Trump’s a true Conservative?  Absolutely not!  He concerns me…a great deal.  However, am I convinced Hillary Clinton plans to perpetuate Obama’s legacy by sticking America with a third term of Obama’s ideologies?  Absolutely!  She’s promised as much.  And this is one of the only things she’s said that can be trusted.

Time and time again I converse with Conservatives who won’t vote for Trump because their conscience won’t allow it.  Well, if that’s you, I pose the following questions:

Will your conscience allow Hillary Clinton to nominate four or more Supreme Court Justices?

Will your conscience vote for Hillary, a woman worshiped by the nation’s largest abortion provider?

Will your conscience vote for Hillary even after she claimed Margaret Sanger as a hero?

Will your conscience vote for a woman who lied about Benghazi, blaming the attack on a YouTube video?

Will your conscience vote for a woman who compromised national security by unilaterally deciding to utilize her own private server and email?

Will your conscience vote for a woman whose husband sexually harassed and assaulted scores of women?  (Hillary called the women’s charges, “Bimbo eruptions.)

Will your conscience vote for a woman who’s been called “extremely careless” by the FBI?

And let me ask again, will your conscience permit you to allow Hillary Clinton to nominate four or more Supreme Court Justices, who enjoy lifetime appointments?

A vote for a Third Party candidate or boycotting the ballot box in November is a vote for Hillary…a violation of the conscience many claim the desire to protect.

Trump’s not perfect…not even close.  And we really don’t know how America will fare under a Trump/Pence Administration.  Clinton’s track record speaks for itself; Hillary’s term in office might be America’s death knell.

So I ask, do you really care about our kids?

Are You Distracted?

As a child, I heard adults say on many occasions that time seems to fly by faster as one ages.  Honestly, I never knew the reality of that statement until becoming an adult.  It does seem each year passes by at a faster clip.  Here we sit on the eve of 2016 and I’m just now used to writing ‘2015’ on my personal checks.  Maybe the days speed by in a blur because of our hectic schedules and varied obligations.  We run here, race there, barely finding time to breathe.  Careers monopolize much of our time with the other waking hours spent shuttling kids to basketball games, theater practice, or church activities.  Seldom do we simply pause and consider the most important things of life.

There’s a story found in the Gospels addressing the importance of this ‘pause.’  Mary and Martha find themselves in the position of hosting Jesus and the Disciples.  Martha immediately concerns herself with preparing a meal for thirteen men.  I can see Martha rummaging through the cupboards, pulling ingredients, cooking utensils and slipping on an apron.  As she organizes her thoughts, she realizes her sister hasn’t joined her in the kitchen.  I see her peeking into the living room, hoping to lock eyes with Mary.  When Mary ignores her sister’s laser like glare, I see Martha banging pots together and clearing her throat in an abnormally loud manner.  When all efforts to draw Mary’s attention fail, she takes her complaint to the Master.

“Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Martha assumes Jesus will side with her, sending Mary to help shoulder the work of meal preparation.  I see Martha crossing her arms with a smirk as she readies for Jesus gentle reprimand of her slacking sister.  However, Jesus responds in a manner completely unexpected.

“Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset  about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

What had Mary chosen? To sit at the feet of Jesus.

The chore of fixing a meal distracted Martha from sitting at the Teacher’s feet.  In two thousand years, not much has changed.  We live in a society full of distractions.  News agencies seldom focus on the real issues, magnifying minor stories to protect their political ideologies.  For those unwilling to investigate for themselves, the journalistic “sleight of hand” keeps the masses uninformed.  This strategy bodes well for ideologues weaving webs of destruction to topple American Exceptionalism.  But there’s even a greater problem.  Christians.  Yes, Christians.

For years, followers of Christ have chosen to sit quietly on the sidelines watching America’s harrowing ride to “hell in a hand basket.”  Christians remained silent when one loud and overbearing atheist complained about prayer in schools.  When Roe versus Wade was argued at the Supreme Court, Christians largely held their tongues disbelieving a refined society would be allowed to legally destroy the life of an unwanted child.  And now, decades later, when Christians voice concerns, their views are largely ignored or dismissed as being intolerant.  And why?  Because only a small percentage of Christians choose to speak up.  Many Christians continue to believe a polite society avoids religious and political topics.  Based upon the current political and ideological climate of our Country, maybe that old philosophy needs to be tossed aside.

If we truly care about the future of our children and grandchildren we must take those truths we learn at the feet of Jesus and implement them in the world around us.  Remember, Jesus informed His disciples to

“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God the thing that our God’s.”

This holds true provided Caesar’s edicts steer clear of conflicting with the Law of God.  When the Government enacts laws failing to honor Biblical truths, we must stand firm on the Word of God.  We must remove the self-imposed muzzle from our mouths and make our voices heard.  That’s my intent as we embark upon another new year.

As for me and my House, we will serve the Lord.

Treating Babies Like Goldfish

babyinwomb

Lifenews.com posted breaking news today on social media.  Both Facebook and Twitter heralded that Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed a bill mandating aborted babies be buried or cremated.  The Indiana Governor deemed the measure necessary as a response to Planned Parenthood’s business of selling aborted babies and baby parts to medical research companies.

The Aborted Fetal Remains Bill blocks Planned Parenthood from selling aborted babies and their organs and allows the pregnant woman to decide how the remains of her baby should be handled, a burial or cremation at her own expense.  Sadly, the Indianapolis Planned Parenthood Facility was disposing of aborted remains down a drain and into the sewer system.  (Doesn’t this sound like the same practice of those who “bury” a goldfish?)

Indiana State Senator Liz Brown authored the legislation.  Brown said,

“This law creates rules for how to appropriately dispose of aborted fetal remains.  Establishing standards brings respect to the woman, abortion staff and the aborted child.”

Certainly, pro-life advocates appreciate the Senator’s choice of verbiage.  Utilizing the word “child” causes bristling on the Left as Americans are more likely to hear the terms “fetus,” “tissue” or even the despicable word, “tumor.”

A step in the right direction, the Bill addresses the issue of disposing of the baby’s lifeless body with dignity; it fails to stop the holocaust.  Every American needs to be informed about the videos posted by the Center for Medical Progress.  In fact, it’s high time the pro-choice segment of our Country is challenged to watch the undercover exposes’ and then decide if standing for Planned Parenthood truly mirrors their morals and ideologies.

So far, 12 states have responded to videos by initiating investigations into the practices of the abortion giant.  Three states have decided to cut funds to Planned Parenthood until their procedures are thoroughly vetted.  Of course, some stand by Planned Parenthood through “hell or high water.”  Out of political expediency, Hillary Clinton claims the attempts to cease funding Planned Parenthood on the federal level is a continuance of the Republican’s Party “war on women.”  She fails to note the Left’s war on babies.

Thanks to the efforts of the Center for Medical Research, maybe America’s conscience has been stirred enough to support stricter abortion regulations.  Maybe one day Conservative judges will sit on the Supreme Court and revisit Roe versus Wade.  Maybe one day the landmark decision responsible for the slaughter of 55 million Americans will be overturned.

Maybe.  Just maybe.

What Bible Has Jimmy Carter Been Reading?

I’m not sure what Bible Jimmy Carter’s been reading, but concerning gay marriage, the former President said this:

“I believe Jesus would. I don’t have any verse in scripture. … I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else,” he said.

So, would Jesus really support same sex marriage?

First, let me be perfectly clear. God loves gay people. How do I know? Well, John 3:16 states,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Note, God fails to insert an asterisk or add a disclaimer. No Christian familiar with the teachings of the Bible argues God’s love for all people.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

But God’s love for people does not change His views on morality.  God’s view of sin doesn’t evolve.

When thinking about how Jesus handled the issue of sin in people’s lives, I often cite the story of the woman caught in adultery. Jesus demonstrates the model of

‘Hate the sin, love the sinner.’

One day as Jesus taught, religious leaders dragged a woman from the bed of an adulterous liaison and dumped her at the Master’s feet. The religious leaders circled, spewing judgment on the woman, reminding Jesus and all within earshot about the Law. For her infidelity, she deserved the prescribed punishment – a public stoning.

In response to their vitriol, Jesus stooped and scrawled something in the dirt, then stood and challenged,

“You who are sinless cast the first stone.”

I’ve often wondered what Jesus wrote. I doubt He wasted His time on doodling stick figures. I wonder if He jotted a list of sins with which these men struggled. Maybe He wrote the words, “pride,” lust,” or the word that labeled the actions of the religious leaders – “entrapment.” (How did these men know about this woman’s indiscretion and the ability to catch her in the arms of a man not her husband?)

As these men cast aspersions at the woman and questioned Jesus’ handling of the situation, I imagine their words trailed off as they watched Jesus write. If Jesus enumerated a list of transgressions, as each man’s besetting sin appeared, the Spirit of God pricked their hearts. When He stood to authorize the first hurled stone, each dropped his rocks, slinking away. Jesus asked,

“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?

“No one sir,” she replied

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared.

Those demanding acceptance of ungodly lifestyles, quote only the first part of Jesus’s statement, adding:

“See Christians, Jesus didn’t condemn and neither should you!”

But what many conveniently ignore is that Jesus added the following exhortation,

“Go and leave your life of sin.”

Jesus would say the same thing to a gay couple seeking Christ’s approval for a same sex marriage today.

Arm chair theologians argue Jesus never addressed same sex marriage, thereby claiming homosexual unions are left up to the discretion of the people choosing them.  Granted, in the Gospels we find no mention of gay unions, but Jesus does address the definition of Biblical marriage.  In Matthew 19:4-6 Jesus says,

“And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH ‘?”So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”…

Jesus doesn’t add,

“Oh and that’s why men marry each other and women marry each other as well.”

That’s not God’s standard for marriage.

Obviously, Jimmy Carter supports the ruling of the Supreme Court and the edict for all states to acknowledge same sex marriage.  Sadly, the Left fails to see this as a governmental overreach and a threat to exercising religious freedom.  And though the highest court in the land has vacated Christian principles, nowhere is it written that a Christian’s morals and conscience are to be abandoned once vacating the shadow of the steeple.  If the Government resorts to stripping Churches of their tax exempt status for failing to recognize same sex marriage, they’re gambling with America’s future…but God’s holding all of the cards.

Jimmy Carter holds the distinction of being a former United States President, but God’s not so impressed that He takes Carter’s view of Scripture into advisement. The Host of Heaven will never hear God say,

“Gabriel, I’ve been wrong about homosexuality…In fact, ‘Modern Family’ and Jimmy Carter changed my view…”

Nor will God’s view evolve on adultery, pre-marital sex, pedophilia, rape, incest, etc.

“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  Hebrews 13:7-8

Who is Jesus?  According to John chapter one, He is the very “Word” of God.  In other words, the Word of God does not change or evolve to cater to the whims of those looking for a lifestyle to be sanctioned.

Simply put, no Mr. President, Jesus would not approve of same sex marriage.

This Morning I Cried

This morning as I scrolled Facebook, I clicked on a YouTube video, posted by a friend, of the Gaither Vocal Band.  The group delivered a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.  Their tight harmonies accompanied a moving patriotic video.  As I watched, I swallowed back a lump gathering in my throat.  Then tears welled in my eyes and soon dampened my cheeks.  Yes, I’m an emotional guy, and yes, occasionally a beautifully sung song (or a “Little House” episode) moves me to tears, but neither was the reason this morning.

This morning I cried for America.

I remember the Presidencies of Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II. Under these men (even Clinton), I felt more secure in America’s future than I do now.  On 9/11, I watched in horror as planes torpedoed into the World Trade Center, but not once did I doubt America’s ability to rebuild and to stand resolute.  I remember watching proudly as George W. Bush stood on a mound of rubble proclaiming,

I can hear you, the rest of the world can hear you and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”

Now, our Country’s too busy drawing and re-drawing red lines.  Honestly, I don’t know how this current Administration would respond to another mass attack.  Would they offer the terrorists jobs? Or hugs? Label the event as workplace violence? Or would they hold a press conference to warn Americans to refrain from calling this Islamic terrorism?  Granted, this is sarcastic in nature, but how many of us really trust the current leadership in Washington to do what’s best for America?

American Enterprise Institute published a public opinion report evaluating Americans’ level of patriotism. One of the most astounding and disappointing results was the following:

Americans aren’t as proud of their country as some citizens in other countries are of their own nations. According to a World Values Survey, 98 percent of citizens in Qatar claimed to be “very proud” of their nationality. However, only 56 percent of Americans responded positively in this category.

Qatar?  Are you kidding me?  In Qatar, only Muslims can express their religion publicly, all others must conduct worship services in private homes.  Those leaving the Muslim faith face imprisonment or death.  And yet, 98% of those living in Qatar are proud of their country….How can this be?

Everyday we read of new crippling policies, court judgments, or another round of decisions being written into law by an overreaching “pen and phone.”  The Church sits on the precipice of being made obsolete as the government now attempts to shoulder the responsibility of dictating what is and isn’t sinful.  And now innoucuous entertainment is banned because of a flag that Liberals find offensive.  Many Conservative people are cowering in the shadows, fearful of offending the PC police or being investigated by rogue government agencies.  I wish the above was hyperbole, but that’s the America we currently reside in.

That’s why I cried.

I’m not weeping for myself, but for my family, especially my kids. Unless America rights this ship and charts a new course, what will our future generations face? If we’re not careful, in a few decades, America will be nothing more than a footnote in the pages of history. The Founding Fathers sacrificed too much for this to be our Country’s outcome. Too many brave men and women have paid the ultimate price on the world’s battlefields for us to surrender our freedoms to ideologies intent on destroying American exceptionalism.

At times I feel like Elijah.  After a God-given victory against the prophets of Baal, he fled from another enemy…the Queen.  He moaned that no one else was standing for God.  He thought himself to be all alone.  He suffered from a

“nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I’m just going to go eat worms”

mentality.  God reminded Elijah that there were 7,000 others who had yet to bow their knees to false gods.  Occasionally, the filthy haze of America’s ills conceals the possibility of the United States rising from the ashes to greatness again.  That’s not an impossibility. But for that to happen, America must turn wholeheartedly to God and remember the encouraging words of President Ronald Reagan,

“We are never defeated unless we give up on God.”

Keep standing Patriots, and may God once again bless the United States of America.

Happiness or Holiness

One of my Facebook friends posted a comment supporting the Supreme Court decision to allow gay marriage in all fifty states.  He gushed that gays could now enjoy the same happiness as straight couples.  He then encouraged a relative to go ahead and tie the knot with his life partner.  So, according to this friend’s ideology, happiness trumps holiness.

Both the Old and New Testament condemn homosexuality as an abomination, with Romans chapter one declaring,

“Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” (Romans 1:27)

The word penalty  speaks of discipline or as the dictionary defines:

a punishment imposed for breaking a law, rule, or contract

Happiness does not spring from discipline and punishment.

I Corinthians 6:9-10 delivers this dire warning,

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God

The Apostle Paul gives a list of the types of people who won’t be in Heaven.  One of the heartbreaking consequences of living a life ignoring God and His Word is eternal separation from God.  Claiming happiness as a reason for same sex marriage ignores God’s condemnation of the act and of the consequential eternal hell for those who ignore the Word of God and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.  I Peter 1:15-16 dispels this idea that happy living should be the outcome for every person’s life, no matter if the chosen life contradicts God’s will.

15but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”

Note:  Holiness trumps happiness.

Maybe this analogy helps.  Imagine for a moment small children playing with a lighter and sticks of dynamite.  Every time the flame jumps to life, the children giggle.  They believe the sticks of dynamite to be large fireworks, so they fear no consequences.  You happen by.  You see the kids, the lighter, and the dynamite and you know the potential outcome.  Now, do you walk on and ignore the scene because the kids are happy?  Do you encourage them to find additional lighters because it will add more fun?  Do you say,

“Listen, I don’t necessarily agree with what you’re doing, but you look happy.  That’s all that matters.”

The Bible shares a warning for those who fail to alert people living outside the will of God:

“Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me. 18“When I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.…”(Ezekiel 3:17-18)

If we sit by silently and embrace the “live and let live” ideology, we will
politically correct” people into Hell.

So, I leave you with the question:  What’s more important happiness or holiness?

God’s Not Dead, Still Making a Splash

People continue to flock to see “God’s Not Dead.”  Every few days I notice someone’s Facebook update reminding all of their “friends” of the very fact…God’s Not Dead.  Certainly, some probably wonder why their making such a statement.  If they ask, tell them to see the movie!  It’s fantastic!  But why?  Why has the film made such a splash in the shadow of Hollywood blockbusters?  I speculate it’s because of the current political climate in America.

Almost daily, stories surface of people accusing Christians of bigotry, even filing suits against those refusing to sanction their lifestyle.  Take for instance, the story of Elane Photography.  In 2006, Elaine and her husband were asked to photograph a lesbian couple’s commitment ceremony.  Elaine respectfully declined, citing her conservative Christian beliefs as the reason.  Case closed, right?  Wrong!

The lesbian couple secured another photographer at a lower rate, yet still filed a complaint accusing Elane Photography of “sexual orientation discrimination.”

The Human Rights Commission of New Mexico found Elane Photography guilty and ordered them to pay almost seven thousand dollars to the two plaintiffs.  The decision was appealed to the New Mexico Supreme Court.  These judges upheld the ruling.  One judge in his concurring opinion wrote:

Elane Photography “is now compelled by law to compromise the very religious beliefs that inspire their lives,” as “the price of citizenship.”

Did anyone else just feel the rumble of the Founding Fathers rolling in their graves?

This week, the Supreme Court refused to hear the case.  The New Mexico Supreme Court ruling stands.  It appears that America’s barreling down a road which trumpets the freedom of the First Amendment as long as one sides with the Liberal and godless agenda.  Those who yell and scream for tolerance exhibit the most intolerance of all.

As I visited with a group of men this morning, another Pastor predicted that soon churches would be required to host same sex marriages and pastors would be required to officiate…whether they believe the union is biblical or not.  Some laugh at the idea and say that will never happen.  Christians said the same thing about removing prayer from school and legalizing abortion on demand.  Almost 43 million aborted babies later and look where we find ourselves…In the middle of another cultural war with the soul of America at stake.

God’s Not Dead resonates because the movie casts a positive light on Christianity.  For once the Believer isn’t cast as a dopey, idiotic Bible thumper.  The movie conveys the story of real life Christians making a mark for Christ in a world filled with antagonists.  The film encourages people to stand for Christ when no one else will.  Sure, that’s a lonely place to be, but God blesses faithfulness.  And God will bless Elane Photography.  I don’t know how or in what capacity, but God will honor their stand.

As Christians we can expect persecution and to lose an occasional battle, but as one evangelist once said, “We’ve already won the war.”

Everyone hold on to Jesus.  The ride’s gonna get bumpy.
